PROCESS

Projects

In my last 2 years at Imageworks I was a CG Supervisor working almost exclusively in Unreal Engine. The first real time project we tackled was an episode for Netflix's Love Death + Robots animation anthology. This project was incredibly fun and challenging. It was great to team up with Jerome Chen again!

Art Direction

My first opportunity to Art Direct a CG short. This was an incredible learning experience and a chance to improve upon my core art skills. I provided paintovers for lighting artists, worked with the layout team on spatial environment design and helped contribute to final colour and look! Complex Materials, Niagara FX, Virtual Camera Scouting, Blueprinting and much more! Overseeing all asset and art delivery for this project was very challenging, we had tons of moving parts and the entire team was learning Unreal together. It was such a unique and rewarding project.

Look Dev

I created our Unreal Master Material system; a modular set of functions that can be kitbashed together to create cool and complex materials. Exploring photoreal skin, animating texture maps, and variation triggers across a wide array of render targets. On In Vaulted Halls Entombed, I was responsible for delivering all our character look dev, overseeing costume texturing and working closely with a small team of modelers and environment artists.

Post Mortem

Epic interviewed the Imageworks creative leadership and I had the incredible pleasure to provide a video interview as well as a transcribed interview in the 2022 Epic Games Animation Field Guide. You can get a snipped of it at the bottom of this page, or download your own version to read a comprehensive overview of Unreal Engine in the animation industry.
